Phil Ochs wrote this song I perform here about the US occupation of the Dominican Republic in 1965 during the Civil War there. He was a protest singer songwriter famous for his songs about Vietnam etc. Here´s a link to his bio on wikipedia

I first learned of this song about 12 years ago when my brother sent it to me on a tape (What´s that?) Our families are dominican so the civil war and the US occupation has always been present in our lives and conversations one way or another.
