Phil Ochs wrote this song I perform here about the US occupation of the Dominican Republic in 1965 during the Civil War there. He was a protest singer songwriter famous for his songs about Vietnam etc. Here´s a link to his bio on wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phil_Ochs
I first learned of this song about 12 years ago when my brother sent it to me on a tape (What´s that?) Our families are dominican so the civil war and the US occupation has always been present in our lives and conversations one way or another.
If you´re interested in finding out a little bit more about that conflict and the US role here´s a link you might find useful. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_occupation_of_the_Dominican_Republic_(1965%E2%80%9366)
