Leo Susana - Redemption Song (Bob Marley cover) 88/365

Image
I sometimes play "Redemption Song" live. My cover owes a lot to Joe Strummer's take on the song which is the reason I decided to finally learn it. It was like, Oh yeah, I can change keys and do it a bit differently. I also love Stevie Wonder's cover.
But I'm never sure what key to play it in. If I play it in G or Gb if my guitar is tuned down (like here) then I can't really hit the high notes.
Anyway, it's just a great song!

Leo Susana - Pancho and Lefty (Townes Van Zandt cover) 87/365

Image
87/365 Wonderful song by the later, great singer/songwriter Townes Van Zandt. My second video for this series was his "Be Here to Love me" which I recorded on my album The Opposite of Now. "Pancho and Lefty' is also on my list of songs I want to cover on record in the future.
As much as I love this song fudged the lyric a bit but I liked the perfomance so kept it. When he says "Desert's quiet and Clevelands' cold, so the story ends we're told" I sang "we know" instead of "we're told"

Leo Susana - Into My Arms (Nick Cave cover) 86/365

Image
"I don't believe in an interventionist god, but I know darling that you do..." 86/365 Today's song is "Into My Arms" a beautiful song written by Nick Cave and recorded with The Bad Seeds on The Boatman's Call. I recorded it for my 2012 cd, The Opposite of Now in a different version than I play here. Thanks for watching! à demain!

Leo Susana - Ol' 55 ( Tom Waits cover ) 85/365

85/365 Quickie video of this Tom Waits classic from his Closing Time album which many people only know from The Eagles version. Enjoy.
Thanks for watching

Leo Susana - Hotel California (The Eagles cover) 84/365

Image
84/365 This cover I do of The Eagles classic "Hotel California is more of a spoken word/storyteller version. I mix it up with a bit of Rumba Catalana strumming at the end as an homage to the Gypsy Kings version.
Not much to say about this tune except that it's great. I still love listening to the original, or watching live versions with Joe Walsh and Don Felder playing off each other.

Leo Susana - Blackbird (Beatles cover) 83/365

Image
Blackbird

I’ve played Paul McCartney’s “Blackbird” (on The Beatles White Album) for many years as a fingerpicking exercise, freely, not thinking much about the structure and using 3 fingers on my picking hand. Yesterday was watching videos of Paul playing it and seeing that he gets that groove going using just 2 fingers, so sat down to try to get that strum/picking he does with his index finger watching a couple of lessons on youtube. Mixed it up today with what I learned and how I play it. Also tried to sing it where the melody is. Usually, if I perform it live (rarely) I’ll do it an octave below where Paul sings it. Gotta def practice it more cause there’s a lot going on between the guitar and voice but if you focus on one you tend to lose the other. When I focus too much on what I’m doing with my right hand the melody goes out the window. Oh yeah, keep your feet going too hehe. and don’t rush it, which I did here

Leo Susana - Machine Gun Camera

Image
Machine Gun Camera is a song I released in January 2017. I wrote up in the Pyrenees in a little town called Fiscal and recorded most of it there. Did some additional recording in Zaragoza, and my friend pianist/Keyboardist producer Sergio Marqueta also added some elements.

It's a short track, just a little over the 2 minute mark. Enjoy!

Leo Susana - In My Life (Beatles cover) 78/365

Image
"There are places I'll remember all my life, though some have changed..."
78/365 "In My Life" is quite possibly my favorite Beatles tune (if it's possible to have just one, hmmm) although sometimes I think it's "Something" or "We Can Work It Out" or "Happiness is a Warm Gun" aaaaggghhh... most def in my top ten. What's your favorite Beatles tune?
SO, after recording on various devices and with my guitar tuned down a whole step, decided to one off it straight to Photobooth on another guitar in standard tuning. Didn't quite get what I wanted but I can live with it
I'm gonna upload another version on my http://facebook.com/leosusanamusic page with the guitar in D for contrast (or check the clip from Instagram on my feed which has 2 30sec clips of other recordings). Thanks for listening. Here's another version I recorded today, this one in G (guitar tuned down a whole step) Actually done in my bathroom to get…

Leo Susana - Enjoy The Silence (Depeche Mode cover) 70/365

Image
I’m up in a small town in the Pyrenees named Sarvisé where you hear the sheeps with their bells in the meadow, church bella ring, occasional cars on the road... but sometimes yoy just enjoy rhe early morning silence with the sunrise or a night full of stars.
I love this Depeche Mode song but this version I play owes a lot to Fear Factory.
